Troy Peterson
Troy Peterson was born and raised in central Iowa, graduating from Johnston High School
in 2001. Troy was enrolled in DMACC in September of 2001 when the attacks on
September 11th took place. Troy had been speaking with an Army recruiter before the
attacks took place and signed an Active Duty contract almost immediately. Troy went to basic training in Ft. Sill, OK as a 13B Cannon Crewmember. After basic training Troy was assigned to B Battery 1st Battalion 82nd Field Artillery with the First Cavalry Division at Ft. Hood, TX. Troy’s unit trained spent 2 years training for Iraq and was deployed to southeast Baghdad in March of 2004. Troy received the Purple Heart Medal while in Iraq and returned home in March of 2005. Troy received an Honorable Discharge in 2006 and went to work for the Travis County Sheriff’s Office in Austin, TX until 2008. That is when his struggles with mTBI and PTSD took over his life. For the next 7 years Troy became and lived the life of a drug addicted alcoholic. His addictions left him lost and scared and on July 30, 2015, Troy attempted suicide. Knowing he didn’t want to live the life of an addict anymore Troy took the advice from his wife Tiffany and joined CrossFit Waukee, and that
is when his life was changed forever and the truth behind ValorFit was created. Troy
Currently lives in Winterset, IA with his wife Tiffany and 2 sons Tucker and Truitt.
Shaylee WILLIAMS
I’ve lived a pretty sheltered life—something I don’t take for granted. But I know not everyone has had it that easy.
Partnering with ValorFit was important to me because I wanted to use this brand for more than just clothing. I wanted to honor the men and women who gave everything for this country, and support those who made
it home but still fight battles every single day. ValorFit’s mission to walk alongside veterans in their healing aligned perfectly with what I want Unfiltered to stand
for—showing up for people, even in their hardest moments. I'm extremely excited to be a part of this and look forward to growing this competition year after year.
Thank you so much for signing up and taking on the challenge.
